[HOW-TO] - Clean "Other" data in iTunes for my iPhone? A Simpler Method.

Suddenly my "Other" category storage bloated to 35GB. I am not sure how to clean this.

Here's a solution which I read from a Apple forum:

to reduce the 'other' space I:

  • performed a complete Backup (from iOS Device context menu)
  • performed a Restore (clicked Restore button on Summary tab)
  • after device is reset with latest iOS software, chose latest backup

However, if you choose "Restore from backup" from the Device's context menu, you WILL introduce the corrupted 'other' from the backup, as you said.

Another solution which I found by myself without using the "Restore" method:

  • Close all apps
  • Reboot or Hard Reset (press home and power button)
This will clear the unnecessary "Other". Now I have freed about 33GB of unnecessary "Other" space.

Samsung Chromebook

Managed to win a prize on the last Quiz - in fact the last person at WIF KL 2013.
Its a Samsung Chromebook sponsored by YES 4G!

As a power user, I don't think I will be using this as my main computer. It can't even install any apps. All are web browser apps from Google.

The idea is to save the data in the cloud. Its cheap and fast to boot up.

[HOW-TO] - Install CyanogenMod The Easy Way Using CyanogenMod Installer (Now Available in the Play Store)

Here's a simple way to install CyanogenMod onto your device.
The article below is taken from here.

The vast majority of our readers are more than capable of manually unlocking, rooting, and installing a custom ROM. In fact, most of us here prefer doing things the old fashioned way. After all, the fun’s in the journey, not the destination. However, the same certainly cannot be said for the general population. With that in mind, the CyanogenMod team created the CyanogenMod Installer. This serves as the fastest and most streamlined way of installing CM onto your device, without much user effort required.
The installer comes in the form of two parts. The first is a phone client that is available on Google Play. The second is a connected desktop client that is installed on any computer running Windows Vista or later. Naturally, you also need to have a USB cable and have USB debugging enabled.
Importantly, root is not required to get started. Further, your bootloader doesn’t even have to be unlocked to use the desktop client. Rather, the installer unlocks and roots your device for you. There shouldn’t be any issues if you’re running a custom ROM either, as long as the installer can correctly identify your device.
Unfortunately, restoring back to stock is still a manual affair. That said, most users reading this will already be more than capable of running a Nandroid restore themselves. Finally, the CM Installer is currently compatible with the Nexus SGalaxy NexusNexus 7Nexus 7 (2013)Nexus 4Nexus 10,Galaxy S IIGalaxy S IIIGalaxy S 4Galaxy NoteGalaxy Note IIHTC One, and various variants of the above devices.
If you’ve been looking for an easy way to get CyanogenMod onto your device, it doesn’t get any easier than the CM Installer. Make your way to their Play Store entry and Installer Wiki Entry to get started.

iPad Air and iPad Mini Retina will ship in 41 Countries on 1st November, 2013

Apple announced the iPad Air and iPad Mini retina will be ship on November 1, 2013.

Here’s the full country list for the iPad Air: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finalnd, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, and the US.

And guess what? Malaysia is not in the list!

Next Apple Device called "Air" - Combination of iPad Air and Macbook Air

With Apple's latest announcement of iPad Air, it seems that Apple is planning for a new product that might combined both the Macbook Air and the iPad Air. We have seen several products already in the market that can become a laptop and a tablet (keyboard plus touchscreen).

Below are the reasons why I am thinking Apple might release their upcoming product which can combine both capability:

  1. Apple Launchpad - This feature has been there even before Mavericks but never being used extensively. Reason being, Launchpad is meant to be use just like the iOS device (iPad and iPhone) with a touch screen.
  2. What's after Mavericks 10.9? It could be the total revamp of Mac OS X that might be called Mac OS X 11.0. This is a big jump.
  3. iPad Air - The name "Air" itself have already being given an indication that its the tablet version of "Macbook Air".
  4. Power savings technology by Apple - great strides with their new way of power savings
  5. Common 64-bit architecture.

What do you think? Does it make sense? Will it be available next year (2014) or 2015? Its unlikely to be 2014 since Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9 just being release this year. We would expect another two years before a total revamp Mac OS X will be announce.

Which iPad will you buy next?

[Video] - Review of Waterfield Designs Staad Backpack

This looks like an awesome Backpack. Looks quite professional - ever wondered how to carry a backpack to a meeting room full of professionals? Sometimes I felt quite weird in carrying my leather backpack in an official function and wearing a suit. Maybe this kind of quality backpack gives a more professional look.
It comes in two sizes (USD 319 for a smaller one and USD 329 for a bigger one)
What do you think?

iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S price in Malaysia.

I was trying to find and compare the prices of iPhone 5 from Malaysia Apple Online Store but couldn't find it anymore. Instead, I can only find the price of iPhone 4S 8GB model ONLY (RM 1499 with 24 hours expected delivery time). Weird, why it didn't display the latest iPhone 5 price.

The price of iPhone 5 by Senheng outlets are:

iPhone 5 16GB – RM2,199
iPhone 5 32GB – RM2,499
iPhone 5 64GB – RM2,799

And recently, Malaysian Wireless managed to get an insider information about the price of iPhone 5C and 5S.

iPhone 5C (16GB) - RM1899

iPhone 5S (16GB) - RM2299
iPhone 5S (32GB) - RM2599
iPhone 5S (64GB) - RM2899

Maybe we just need to wait till Oct. 31 to get the actual prices. Normally Apple will sell their iPhones very much different from the previous models. It could be the same as the last ones. But Malaysians like any other Apple fans around the world will face the challenge to get their hands on the Gold color iPhone 5S since its shortage worldwide.

Oct. 18 Release Date for Android Kit Kat 4.4 - Everybody dance now

This new date comes from a post over at the official KitKat Google+ page, with a rather ambiguous and "hidden" “Everybody dance now” message.

This could be a reference to the hit single of the same title made by the American dance group C+C Music Factory. That song had a length of 4 minutes and 4 seconds (however the Youtube video is longer than that), the same double 4 of the upcoming Android version.

This song was released on October 18, 1990, which leads us to believe that Google has chosen Oct. 18 as the date to also make its own release of Android 4.4 Kit Kat.

What do you think? Can we dance now? Yeah....!!
